boooooooooo-yaaaaaaaaaaaa
I was going to take a different route, but when I woke up that morning...it just didn't feel right. So, I opted for staying closer to home. If it's hard to imagine how long 20 miles is....think of it this way.1. My house to Windward mallor2. My house to Matsumotos
Those were the routes I was thinking of running, but like I said...it just didn't feel right.
And today, I'm not very sore. Except for the mastitis that I woke up with this morning, which gives bad body aches and flu like symptoms. I guess that's what happens when you run for 4 hours in a wet sweaty sports bra.
But, I'm pretty excited and I feel like I could definately run an extra 6 miles 3 weeks from now. It's crazy. My sister once dated a guy who ran 20 miles a few times a month...and I thought, "Why in the world...how in the world? would anyone be able to run that far???" And yesterday I did it. Thanks to my sweet husband who stayed at home with the kiddos for 4 hours. Who's husband is willing to watch the kids for 4 hours at a time while the wife worksout? How awesome is that?! Thanks babe. 3 more weeks to go.
Oh! And the most awesome thing. I woke up this morning and was wandering around the house and my husband said, "Whoa, babe. Your legs look totally skinny." So I got out the tape meausre and sure enough...My theighs have lost a whole 1 1/4 inch since Oct 24. Amazing.

Back in the saddle again
I was bummed because in my schedule I was supposed to run 15 miles...and I was really looking forward to the new challenge.
So this week I ran 3 miles on Tuesday, (it about killed me). And again on Thursday (was challenging to find the motivation, but once I got going it was pretty easy). I think I skipped Wednesday because it just really didn't fit into my time budget that day.
But today I ran 10 MILES! Woo hoo. I am getting back in the game. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust my training schedule since I missed out 2 whole weeks.
Anyway, I really gotta start watching what I am eating I have been TERRIBLE these past few weeks. I cut myself way too much slack since I was sick...not very smart.
So, starting tomorrow it's back to healthy food, counting cals, and 1-2 hours exercise a day till Thanksgiving. My goal is to loose another 1/2 inch off hips and thighs by then. Wish me luck! ;-0)

Something else to try
And here is one that is just pilates. For those of you who have never done pilates....I LOVE IT. I used to take a class once a day for a month when I was young and unemployed. And it did soooo much for my posture and just how I felt everyday. I just felt stronger all around. I totally suggest trying to do this workout 3 days a week for a month and see how you start to feel.
And those of you who want to mix up cardio with your yoga...here you go. ;-)

Did you try it?
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Hmmmmmmm.....
We accidentally did 1 too many weeks in the 1st phase
In the 2nd phase Jonathon was sick a whole week, so I did an extra week the 2nd phase as well
In the 3rd phase I have been sick for the past week+ so I plan to do 3 more weeks once I start feeling better.
My kids have shared there terrible cold with me. The good news is that I now have a little more patience and empathy for them when they have a runny nose. Being sick is the pits. I have had the most terrible headache for over a week, and haven't been able to taste food since last Thursday. You'd think that not being able to taste food would be a blessing. But for me it is a curse. I crave food all day long now because I never feel satisfied when I get to eat. I don't get to enjoy my meals like I used to. So, I think I end up eating more hoping that I might be able to taste just 1 bite.
So, sadly enough I was supposed to run 15 miles last saturday, but couldn't thanks to this nasty sore throat, headache, bugary nose, evil bug that has zapped all my energy...thanks.
And since I don't get to exercise I am Miss Grumpy Pants herself. I can't handle going more than 3, 4 days tops without exercising. I feel yucky and in turn start to act yucky... sorry family.
But today, I looked up hulu.com and found this beautiful piece of work. It's only 20 minutes, and I really like yoga. It works your muscles well, breaks you out in a small sweat, and gives you a nice stretch. He doesn't hold the poses for very long...but hey. He's trying to pack a 45 minute workout into 20 minutes, and I'd say he does a pretty good job.
Have 20 minutes to spare right now? Give it a try.

Did you happen to see...?
It's funny that it was soooo exciting for me, because a marathon is 26 plus miles....so 10 in comparison to that is measly. But, I am glad that for a moment I was able to revel in my accomplishment...and just think how excited I'll be when I finish that 26.3 (or whatever) miles. ;-)

On losing 10 pounds...
That could be for a variety of reasons, one being the increased cardio thanks to my marathon training 4 days a week.
But, it's sure nice to step on a scale and see 150 again. Now, if I get down 5 more pounds in the next few weeks I will be a believer in this diet.
Now i know 10 pounds is a lot of weight for a one week period. I am sure a lot of weight was probably water, but whatever the reason for this weight gain, I hope it doesn't come back.
And as for this new diet, the food recipes in the back are AMAZING. But I haven't really had a chance to try any of them. I am hoping next week to give them a try when I get a little more organized in my kitchen and get my fridge put back together. Most my food is still at my neighbors.
Anyway, that's my report today.

It's not that bad
Today, I made a few adjustments and thought a little more about how to schedule my meals and it is soooo much easier.
Yesterday I had some fruit in the morning, so I had to wait 3 hours before switching to proteins. Bad news was that I could eat proteins at noon, but I had to head to the airport at 11:30.
So, I packed me some cubes of cheese and a few slices of turkey. After running friends to the airport I went to costco and had the chicken ceasar salad. It was fun to eat it, cause normally the dressing is something I would only allow myself on saturdays.
It kind of sucked to walk through Costco and not be able to eat the samples because they were carbs...but honestly if I was only allowing sweets on weekends I wouldn't be allowed to eat chocolate pudding or sesame chips anyway...right?
I didn't pack any water on yesterdays excusrion which made matters worse.
Anyway, dinner was delicious. Roasted Chicken with roasted veggies and feta cheese sprinkled over top. I made barley for Jonathon and Eden so that they wouldn't suffer from my lack of no carbos.
But, today has been quite delightful. No starving, and it's hard to believe that in 10 minutes I am allowed to eat fruit again...even though I ate a HUGE fruit smoothie this morning.
I think anytime you try to change your diet up, it's a challenge in the begining trying to find new things to eat that you enjoy. But truely this one hasn't been that hard of an adjustment. So far I give this diet a thumbs up.
Now, I just have to wait a few weeks to see if I loose or gain any weight. I am not changing anything I am doing workout wise, so I think this 3 week challenge will be a good test to see if this Somersizing actually works.
If you wanna know what i plan to eat today...here goes.
Breakfast: Fruit smoothie (apple juice, mixed berries, 4 ice cubes, 1/2 apple including skin)
20 minutes later 2 servings oatmeal with skim milk
Noon: 2 eggs, fresh salsa, feta cheese, string cheese
3:00 Half canteloupe, grapes, apple
6:00 Carbo dinner: Probably barley, steamed veggies, cucumber slices, tomato slices, and cooked zucchini (for Jonathon and Eden I'll let them eat last nights left over roasted chicken)
8:00 Kids go to bed, and I should still have enough energy from my carbo dinner to do Plyometrics.
9:00 I will be allowed to have protien again so I will make a recovery protein drink but will have to make it with water since I am not allowed milk with protein. (That rule doesn't make sense to me since there are 8g of protein in a glass of milk...but whatever. I'm just following the rules)
And then, if I want some fruit again before heading to bed...green light! ;-) Isn't that great?

Trying something new
So, I plan to follow this diet for 2 months. But I am going to commit to it for 3 weeks. Anything new is always hard in the begining. So, if I can get past 3 weeks I will stick to it for 2 months and see how much weight I lose.
I will still be working out basically twice a day between marathon training and P90X. So, I imagine this weight we be coming off.
But for 8 weeks (well at least the next 3) it's syonara Free Saturdays... That's going to be tough when my husband eats a nice chocolate candy bar in front of me next saturday and Eden is eating french fries...and jonathon is eating a chocolate sunday from McDonalds...but I imagine it will pay off when I step on the scale and see the pounds coming off again.
If you are interested in trying it too I'd love to help you start....Oh, I forgot to tell you what diet it is. It's Suzanne Somers SOMERSIZING diet. Basically I'll eat what I have always eaten but cut out
avocados
nuts
free saturdays
olives
The only difference with this diet and what I was already doing is food combining.
I will only eat protein and fat together (like Atkins) and carbs with veggies together without any fats, and you eat fruit on an empty stomach. It's a lot of healthy food with a large variety. Once I get down to my goal weight I'll add back nuts, avocados, olives, and free saturdays. Her recipes look delicious, so I'm excited to try this.

A little pep-talk I'll want to remember
But tonight as I was researching marathon training I came across this little pep-talk. And in 13 weeks when I run this 20 mile training run.... I will want to remember this guys words when I start thinking
– I just ran 20 miles.
– Wow, I need to go another 6 miles in the marathon.
– I’m really tired.
– My legs hurt.
– I don’t think I could go another 6 miles.
– What have I gotten myself into?
– I think I’m going to puke.
– I don’t feel ready for the marathon.
And like he says, instead think “I’m done with my training and I’ve gone so far to get here.”

P90X update
I haven't lost any/much weight since starting P90X...but I think that has to do with the fact that I am not including as much cardio as I was doing the past month while I was in arizona. My sister and I enjoy making fools of ourselves making up water aerobics routines. Before we knew it we had already been working out 40 mintes.
This photo is from probably 6 years ago...but now you have a visual. Anyway, I think I will add the extra cardio in next week...as in one week from next week. :-) P90X actually doesn't suggest any extra working out until you have finished 1 month of training with their program...and I'll take any excuse to not have to work out extra. :-) 1 hour is plenty. But unfortunately for me, it just doesn't seem to do the trick. My body responds to that extra workout and nothing else...and I am ready for a new color t-shirt! I'm thinking hot pink or bright green...hmmm...

P90X Bring it!
I started this program yesterday and I am not quitting till my 90 days are over. I took pics last night, but I won't be posting those for 30 days when there is actually something to compare it too. In the meantime just imagine something a little rolly and celulitey...got it? That's me! :-)
In other news I bought myself some motivation while I was gone. I found the PERFECT T -SHIRT at Kohl's. I bought 6 different colors. Each time I lose 5 lbs I get to pick a new color to wear. So far I have a purple and a red one. I am hoping to get the pink or green one next!!! I can't wait!

A pat on my back
So, I strapped on my new runnin' shoes and went for it.
All was going well. My iPod was dead, so I had to borrow Eden's and listen to the one song on there over and over and over again. It was a decent running song at least, with a good tempo for running to.
Then all of a sudden I passed two large trucks, parked one in front of the other on the side of the road. There was about a 3 feet gap between the trucks and two older men (mid 60's, early 70's) were standing nearby with slightly bewildered looks on their faces.
In between these two trucks lay a body....huge body! I was running, it was dark, I was slightly spooked already because I really HATE running at night alone. The lighting on the streets in my neighborhood is poor. But, this definately looked like a naked large cut up body lying in the road between to trucks. It freaked me out. I began running as fast as I could.
When I got home, I told Jonathon about what I had seen, he thought I should call 911 to send the police over to see what was going on....turns out, it was a pig. A really really really big pig. Slightly embarassing. But, glad it wasn't a human.
All the same, I ran my 2.6 miles yesterday! And I give myself a pat on the back, and a tear out of my chubby picture. ;-) Yay!

My new motivation tool- Try it!
So, I have come up with a visual to help remind me that what I am doing does make a difference...though it might just be a small difference. But over-time each of those small differences will add up to something huge.
This is what I did-
I printed a photo of me now,
(Yikes! I know...why I am showing you this? Really embarrassing)
and stapled it on top of a photo of what I would like to look like
So, each time I exercise whether it's an intense work out video or just a walk around the block I take a small tear out of the top paper. And at the end of each day that I don't eat any sweets, I'll take another tear. (Eentsy Teensy tear I am talking here folks). But there is just something so motivating and satisfying about tearing up that embarrassing chubby top photo.
But, eventually the top chubby, celulitey, rolly photo will be torn away to reveal a hot new me underneath. And I imagine by then I should be looking something like this. ;-)

I did it!!
I am hoping now that I will get back into the work-out routine since we won't be having any visitors for a while.
I tried really hard not to eat out of boredom today. I did pretty well, but I did have 2 bowls of cereal this afternoon...woops! ;-) I will try to cut those out tomorrow and eat some fruit. We didn't have any fruit in the house today, so I guess I'll be heading to the grocery store tomorrow.

Face the facts (Edited and revised)
So, today I am taking my measurments. My intentions with sharing my measurements with you, are:
A. To show off. Hahahaha, no just kidding.
it is...
1. For me to keep track of my progress and make sure what I am doing is working
2. To help motivate you to keep going in your exercise persuits.
AS for the measurements. I dont mind sharing them (though to be honest it is slightly embarassing)...but I am taking control of my life and the facts are the facts. They shouldn't scare me, cause I am looking forward to seeing these numbers fall and like I said "I am in control" . (Except for the fact that I ate a Cadburry cream egg during my daughters naptime...I'm human. Oh well, each moment of our lives is a moment to make a new choice. Hopefully I make some better ones this afternoon.)
Hope my blog isn't boring or preechy...It's just my thoughts.
Setting Goals
So...what's your goal? What can you commit to this week? Is it just changing into work out clothes? Walking to your mail-box every day? Think of something that will push you out of your usual work out routine a little...but don't get crazy. We are just on week one.
My goal is to run 1 mile a day and do my "Postnatal Rescue" workout video every other day. It's just a 15 minute routine. Perfect for getting those muscles to recover from pregnancy. Especially your abs. My abs tore apart with Eden. I don't remember the medical term. But there is now a distinct valley between my two abdominal muscles. So, it is very important that I train my stomach muscles slowly and correctly. This video seems to do the trick! If you would like to borrow it...just let me know. Or you can look it up online. It's by Erin O'Brien.
My long term goal is to run 50 miles in 50 days. I'll put a ticker in my side-bar so you can see where I am at.
That reminds me of one more thing. Write down your goal! Put it somewhere that you are going to see. At the end of the week, we are going to grade ourselves on a 1-10. At least I am going to! ;-)
